Rik Saylor

Hi, I’m Rik. I’ve spent more than four decades helping individuals, families, and business owners think through the decisions that shape how they make, keep, use, and ultimately pass on their wealth. I founded Rik Saylor Financial in 1996 with a straightforward philosophy: listen first, look at the whole picture, and turn good ideas into action. My work spans financial planning, investment management, tax planning considerations, estate and trust planning, and business succession planning. I believe straight talk makes complicated decisions easier to understand, and financial planning should ultimately support one thing: helping you pursue your best life.

Rik
Rik Saylor started Rik Saylor Financial in 1996 and has built his career around helping families and business owners address the interconnected decisions involved in growing, using, and transferring wealth. With 43 years of wealth management experience, he takes a holistic approach that combines financial strategy with execution. Listening comes first. Rik believes understanding a client’s circumstances, priorities, family, and business interests is essential before deciding what should happen next. His planning process can involve investment management, tax considerations, protection planning, estate and trust planning, and succession planning. For business owners, his CEPA designation also informs his work around exit and succession considerations. Collaboration is another important part of Rik’s approach. RSF works alongside CPAs, insurance professionals, attorneys, and other professionals to help coordinate the different pieces of a client’s financial life. Rik holds the Series 66 as well as life, health, and annuity insurance licenses and the Certified Exit Planning Advisor designation. He has supported organizations including Hospice, the Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund/Miracle Fields, the Yellow Ribbon Program, and Wounded Warriors. He was named Fairfield Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year in 2010 and spent five years volunteering as an OLLI instructor at the University of Cincinnati and University of Dayton. He is also the former host of “Straight Talk-Clear Decisions.” Away from work, Rik and his wife, Kim, are part of a blended family with five children and five grandchildren. He enjoys pickleball, golf, biking, motorcycling, boating, and bringing family and friends together at their lake house.
How did you become a financial advisor?
The short version? I was recruited by two different companies because of my sparkling personality. At least, that’s my story. What followed became a career spanning more than four decades. Along the way, I found that I really enjoyed helping people take complicated financial questions, get clear about what matters, and put a strategy into action. I started RSF in 1996 and have continued building the practice around that same idea.
What types of clients do you work with?
I work with individuals, families, and business owners who want thoughtful guidance but may differ in how involved they want to be day to day. Some prefer to be fairly hands-off. Others want to participate more actively in the planning process. Either way, my job starts with understanding what they want their wealth and their business, when applicable, to accomplish.
What areas of expertise do you have?
My work centers on financial strategy and execution for both personal and business planning. That can include financial planning, investment management, tax planning considerations, estate and trust planning, protection planning, and succession or exit planning for business owners. The point is to look at those decisions together rather than treating each one as an isolated issue.
What kinds of strategies do you help clients with?
At RSF, we organize much of our work around our Core 4 Solutions: Strategy & Execution, Tax Optimization, Protection, and Legacy Impact. For business owners, my CEPA background also informs conversations around succession and exit planning. Once we understand the destination, the next question is practical: What needs to happen to get there?
What is your favorite part of working with clients?
Helping people pursue their best life. Money is a tool. What matters is what you can do with it, who you can help with it, and what kind of life you can build around it. Seeing a client take something that once felt complicated and turn it into a clear course of action is one of the reasons I still enjoy this work after 43 years.
What is it like partnering with Savvy?
What I appreciate about Savvy is the structure of the relationship. I like the emphasis on creating a win/win approach and aligning the work we do with the experience we want clients to have. For RSF, that support allows us to continue focusing on the relationships, planning, and execution that have shaped our practice.
