Alex Duncan
Hi 👋 I'm Alex. Before becoming a financial advisor, I spent 15 years working in medical device sales and leadership. Today, I help medical device and pharmaceutical professionals navigate many of the same financial decisions I encountered during my own career.
My work centers on comprehensive financial planning, investment management, and stock-based compensation, including RSUs, stock options, and ESPPs. I understand how variable income, taxes, company stock, and career decisions can intersect. At Duncan Wealth Management, I help clients bring those pieces together into a flexible financial plan that can evolve as their careers and priorities change.
"I help medical device and pharma professionals create flexible financial plans that bring their equity compensation, taxes, career decisions, and long-term goals together."

Get to know Alex
Alex Duncan took an unconventional path to wealth management. After earning his degree in economics with the intention of entering the industry, his career instead led him into medical device sales and leadership, where he spent 15 years.
Alex began at Bausch + Lomb as a phone sales representative and worked his way up to national account manager. He later joined Sight Sciences during its earlier stages and was with the company through its IPO. Along the way, he experienced many of the compensation opportunities and decisions that medical device and pharmaceutical professionals encounter, including participating in an employee stock purchase plan, receiving RSUs, and exercising stock options.
Those experiences also showed Alex how complicated equity compensation can become when taxes, timing, diversification, and long-term financial goals are considered together. His own financial decisions ultimately helped shape the work he does today.
Four years ago, Alex transitioned into wealth management and launched Duncan Wealth Management. He now works primarily with medical device and pharmaceutical professionals, from sales representatives to senior executives, helping them understand how their compensation fits into their broader financial lives.
As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, Alex focuses on comprehensive financial planning, investment management, early retirement planning, and stock-based compensation. His firsthand industry experience gives him an understanding of the career paths, variable compensation structures, and financial decisions his clients regularly face.

I earned my degree in economics with the intention of working in wealth management, but my career initially took me in a different direction. I spent 15 years in medical device sales and leadership before making the transition into financial planning four years ago and launching Duncan Wealth Management.
During my medical device career, I dealt firsthand with many of the financial decisions my clients face today. I participated in an ESPP, received RSUs, exercised stock options, and experienced the tax and diversification decisions that come with accumulating company stock.
Those experiences played an important role in my decision to become an advisor. I wanted to work with people from the medical device and pharmaceutical industries who were navigating the same kinds of questions I had faced throughout my career.
My work focuses on comprehensive financial planning, investment management, early retirement planning, and stock-based compensation.
I frequently work with RSUs, stock options, and employee stock purchase plans. Because these benefits can affect taxes, investment concentration, cash flow, and retirement planning at the same time, I believe it is important to evaluate them as part of the broader financial picture rather than as separate decisions.
I primarily work with medical device and pharmaceutical professionals, from sales representatives to CEOs.
These professionals often have financial lives that include variable compensation, high tax brackets, company stock, RSUs, stock options, ESPPs, and important career decisions. I help them understand how those pieces fit together and how decisions made during their careers can affect longer-term goals such as early retirement.
I focus on tax planning and optimization because they are crucial aspects to consider when managing your finances. By strategizing efficient ways to minimize tax liabilities and maximize savings, my clients can plan for the future. Additionally, I also help clients with retirement planning, Investment management, and cash flow planning because they are essential for maintaining a healthy financial balance.
I help clients create flexible financial plans that can adapt as their careers, compensation, and priorities change.
For medical device and pharmaceutical professionals, that can include evaluating when to exercise or sell company stock, planning around RSUs and ESPPs, managing investment concentration, considering tax implications, and determining how those decisions affect goals such as early retirement.
Rather than looking at each decision in isolation, I help clients understand how the different parts of their financial lives interact.
I spent 15 years working in the medical device industry, so I have firsthand experience with many of the situations my clients face.
I have personally dealt with RSUs, incentive stock options, an employee stock purchase plan, variable compensation, and concentrated company stock. I have also experienced how decisions around taxes and holding company stock can have meaningful financial consequences.
That background helps me understand both the financial questions and the career context behind them. My goal is to create a plan around the realities of a client's compensation, career, priorities, and long-term goals.
My favorite part is helping take some of the weight of financial decision-making off a client's shoulders.
When we put a clear plan in place, clients can better understand where they stand, what decisions need their attention, and how those choices connect to their goals. That can allow them to spend more of their time and energy on other priorities, whether that means being with their family, advancing their career, or pursuing something else that matters to them.
The combination of Savvy's team and technology allows me to spend more of my time working directly with clients.
