Get to know Chase

After three years playing in Major League Baseball, Chase parlayed his experience of working with a financial advisor as a professional athlete to become a Financial Advisor himself and help clients manage their financial life just as he was helped. Chase’s financial advisor was instrumental in helping him manage his signing bonus, so he knew then that when his baseball career was over that he wanted to do the same for others. Following his professional baseball career, Chase was given that opportunity when his financial advisor hired him to work with his group and help with other athletes. Chase then transitioned to working with entrepreneurs, athletes, and business owners to help them understand their financial lives. He says he is most rewarded when he is communicating with his clients and helping them achieve their goals and grow with their families.

He attended Elon University where he played baseball and was drafted in the 5th round of the 2009 MLB Draft. In his free time, Chase enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, playing golf, and traveling.

How did you become a financial advisor?

I was inspired to become a Financial Advisor after my experience in the 2009 Major League Baseball (“MLB”) draft. Despite not intending to go pro after a successful college baseball career, I was drafted unexpectedly. Without an agent, the scout I worked with introduced me to a financial advisor. The financial advisor I worked with was also a former baseball player. They not only guided me through the draft process but also helped me understand the financial aspects of being a professional athlete. His mentorship went beyond managing investments; he helped me navigate the lifestyle and career trajectory. After my playing days, I shadowed him and realized that I wanted to impart the same invaluable guidance to others. I have now served as a financial advisor for more than seven years, guiding athletes, entrepreneurs, young families, and business owners toward securing their financial futures.

What types of clients do you work with?

I collaborate with a diverse clientele, spanning professional athletes, entrepreneurs, young families, and business owners.

Is there a unique approach you take?

I believe what sets my approach apart is ensuring my clients gain a deep comprehension of their investments, our industry, and strategies to optimize their financial well-being while minimizing tax burdens.

Is there aN area of expertise that you have?

My experience in professional baseball has given me the knowledge to guide athletes on their career trajectory, spending habits, and contract forecasts to help athletes navigate their financial path effectively. A key focus of mine within financial planning is assisting clients in comprehending the tax implications on their investments and income. I want to ensure that my clients make informed decisions early on because it can significantly impact their retirement plans. I know that a career can vary in length and time and I strive to prepare my clients for any situation as they plan ahead. My goal is to empower clients to make their finances work for them even past their athletic careers.

What types of strategies do you usually help clients with?

I help clients in optimizing their investments based on their income needs and tax situation, to help minimize tax liabilities. I want to help my clients understand that iIt's about what you keep in your pocket at the end of the day, not just what you earn.
‍
I assist clients in creating a financial plan that takes into account their current income, potential future earnings, and any expected expenses. This includes planning for long-term goals such as retirement, education expenses, and major purchases. Additionally, I work with my clients to create an emergency fund and budgeting strategies to help them save money and manage their cash flow effectively.

Working with Savvy

Our industry is very archaic and advisors are always bogged down with tasks that take them away from spending time with clients and learning about their clients’ lives. Savvy offers the ability to offload a lot of what advisors spend their time on and allows me to spend more time talking to my clients and seeing them more frequently. Spending time with clients is the only way to truly learn and have a deep understanding of who they are, how they think, and how their family is, which allows me to provide value beyond portfolio management.

What is your favorite part about working with clients?

My favorite part of working with clients is the conversations I have with them, learning about their lives and then providing them with solutions that help them achieve their financial goals and aspirations for what they would like their future to look like.
