Get to know Tim
Tim Dern is a wealth advisor with 10 years of experience helping clients navigate retirement planning, income planning, Social Security, Medicare, wealth management, and wealth transfer.
Before becoming a financial advisor, Tim graduated from Indiana University and began his career as a high school teacher. He later owned several businesses and served as Chief Marketing Officer for a $700 million international company. That background helps him relate to entrepreneurs, corporate professionals, and working families as they prepare for retirement.
Tim has been married to his wife, Helen, for more than 40 years. Together, they have three children, Bryan, Natalie, and Kyle, along with eight grandchildren. Family is an important part of Tim’s life and shapes the care he brings to client relationships.

Finance and investing once felt confusing to me, and I wanted to understand them for myself. A friend introduced me to the industry, and as I learned more, I realized I wanted to help others make sense of these topics too.
I often use a bucket approach to investing, where different buckets are designed for income, growth, or protection. This can help clients better understand the purpose of each part of their financial plan.
I mostly work with people who are within four or five years of retirement or already retired.
I truly enjoy helping people. Retirement can feel complicated, and I like helping clients simplify those decisions so they feel more informed and organized.
I focus on Social Security, Medicare, retirement income, wealth management, and wealth transfer.
I help clients with the decisions that come with moving into retirement, including Social Security, Medicare options, retirement account rollovers, wealth management, and building a retirement income plan.
I’m looking forward to the support Savvy provides, especially tools and resources that help me spend more time working directly with clients.
