How Jacob
works with clients
My focus is on retirement planning as it plays a pivotal role in financial security. Many face retirement with uncertainty, questioning if their savings will suffice. Retirement planning entails more than just reaching a savings target. It involves strategic decisions on investments, income sources, expenses, and legacy planning.
Preparing for retirement demands a well-thought-out plan, underscoring the importance of a skilled retirement planner. Here are my steps for retirement planning:
Income and Tax Planning
First we focus on your income needs and tax situation to construct a financial plan. Then we optimize income streams through strategic tax planning, leveraging tactics such as Roth conversions and tax-loss harvesting.
Portfolio Management
Next, let's delve into your investment portfolio management. This aspect is crucial as we aim to strike a balance between growth and security by intelligently allocating and diversifying assets. The goal is to distribute investments across different asset classes, mitigating the effects of market fluctuations and protecting the retiree's savings.
Social Security Planning
I also cover strategies for Social Security, a crucial income source for many. Despite its complexity, the system often leads to less-than-ideal claiming decisions. Common misconceptions, like the notion of claiming benefits early, can actually diminish lifetime earnings. I guide clients in identifying the optimal time to claim benefits and seamlessly incorporating these payments into a holistic income strategy.
Long-Term Care Planning
The final pillar of retirement planning often overlooked is long-term care. It encompasses various services, from aiding with daily activities to medical support, essential for individuals with chronic illnesses or disabilities. As Medicare and health insurance typically exclude long-term care coverage, individuals must incorporate it into their retirement strategy. This is where I can assist - whether by guiding you through securing a long-term insurance policy or planning financially for future care needs.

Get to know Jacob
After graduating from college, my first job was in the technology industry, where I sold hardware and software solutions to businesses. I've always been fascinated by the role technology plays in facilitating business and decision-making processes. However, what truly intrigued me was observing how companies made decisions about integrating technology into their organizations. They would ask questions like, "Do we need this?" or "Does the cost justify the value it brings?". They would also consider factors like depreciation, financing cost, and useful life when determining the best way to finance these solutions. I was captivated by the meticulous approach to financial decision-making and execution, which ultimately led me to embark on a journey in the field of financial services.
Over the past 20 years, my career has evolved from being an options trader at a brokerage firm to working as a retirement planner at a renowned insurance company. Eventually, I transitioned into a comprehensive financial planner and tax planning specialist, allowing me to expand my expertise further. I take great pleasure in unpacking and addressing all the necessary details within a comprehensive financial plan, enabling my clients to focus on living their best lives instead of wasting time on worry and inaction.

My first job out of college was in the technology industry selling hardware and software solutions to businesses. I’ve always enjoyed the role that technology plays in facilitating business and decision-making. But, I found myself more interested in the decision-making process companies were engaged in while determining what (if any) technology solutions to fold into their organizations. A company might ask, “Do we need this”? Or, “Does the cost incurred line up with the value it could bring to my company”?. And, “What’s the best way to pay for all of this taking into account depreciation, financing cost, and useful life”? I was captivated by the meticulous approach to financial decision-making and its execution, which led me to start a journey in the field of financial services. I began my career as an options trader at a brokerage firm, followed by a role as a retirement planner at a prominent insurance company. Eventually, I transitioned into a comprehensive financial planner and tax planning specialist, further expanding my expertise.
I love working with clients of any background or asset size. But, I have found a niche within what some call the “Millionaire Next Door”- a set of unassuming people who have used disciplined savings and investment strategies to build and maintain wealth. A well-known study from Ramsey polled over 10,000 millionaires to help identify their “secrets”. Of those polled, most did not have high six-figure incomes or flashy job titles (e.g. Teachers and Accountants are consistently on the list). And, 79% of respondents reported no inheritance from family either. I tend to work best with those who see the value in a disciplined approach to saving and investing, regardless of their backgrounds.
As an independent advisor working with Savvy, I can fold targeted investments into my portfolios that are not offered to many other platforms. For example, the majority of my clients have direct investment into renewable energy infrastructure investments in the U.S. as an alternative to publicly traded investments but as a part of a comprehensive portfolio (these investments come with specific requirements and due diligence and may not be appropriate for every client).Â
I also leverage Savvy’s analytics to provide clients with greater insight into their investments. This allows us to identify correlations, risk profiles, and other insights that allow for a more holistic view of the portfolio, which helps inform better decisions. My approach is rooted in understanding my client's goals and providing them with forward-looking advice that reflects their individual needs.
I excel in evaluating investment goals and crafting a target portfolio mix. With meticulous attention to detail, I not only construct and manage the portfolio but also address the planning intricacies to ensure disciplined execution. I take great pleasure in collaborating closely with clients, ensuring their goals are not only met but surpassed.
I tailor my services to meet the unique needs of each client. My primary focus revolves around assisting clients with tax-efficient retirement income planning and optimizing or creating estate plans. Additionally, I provide guidance in making well-informed financial decisions by leveraging analytics.
Savvy takes care of the back office work, freeing up my time to prioritize and maximize client interactions. With the dedicated support of the Savvy team, I can focus more on meeting my client's unique needs, goals, and aspirations. This unwavering dedication of the Savvy team enables me to deliver the highest level of service and support, ensuring clients get my time and attention.
Unpacking and addressing all of the appropriate details within a comprehensive financial plan so that my clients can focus on getting the most out of life instead of wasting time on worry and inaction.Â
