How did you become a financial advisor?

During my college years, while playing poker, a discussion about Apple stock arose. I expressed my preference against investing in individual stocks, emphasizing my preference for diversification in portfolio management. This led to an introduction to the father of a fellow player, who owned a boutique investment advisor firm in New York. I subsequently joined his firm and was entrusted with managing his personal accounts. Through this experience, particularly in assisting with his son who has severe autism, I gained valuable insight into the unique challenges of financial planning for a child who requires lifelong care.

What areas of expertise do you have?

I have deep expertise in tax-efficient investing, shaped in part by my experience working at a direct indexing startup, where I gained hands-on exposure to a wide range of tax-optimization strategies. In addition, I specialize in the unique financial planning needs of families with children who have special needs, with a strong understanding of the legal, financial, and emotional considerations that come with long-term care and support planning.

What types of clients do you work with?

I specialize in working with high-income clients who have children with special needs. My approach focuses on building long-term, trusted relationships with their children which is designed to span multiple decades. I understand the unique financial considerations involved, including the need for an investment strategy that supports long-term sustainability and continuity of care.

Additionally, I help clients navigate the complexities of re-domiciling to states with lower or no income tax. This includes guiding them through the residency transition process and adjusting their investment strategy to align with a more tax-efficient structure. I also work closely with professionals managing concentrated stock positions, helping them optimize their portfolios in the context of risk, liquidity, and long-term planning.

What types of strategies do you usually help clients with?

I enjoy leveraging direct indexing strategies to help clients reduce their tax burden when appropriate. For clients seeking income, I often incorporate closed-end funds as a way to enhance the fixed-income portion of their portfolios. I also find that solar investments and related tax credits can be highly effective for clients facing significant income tax liabilities. Additionally, I’m a strong advocate for using 351 exchange ETFs as a tax-efficient solution for clients with concentrated stock positions.

Is there a unique approach that sets you apart?

In addition to my work as a wealth manager, I run a direct indexer, a unique strategy designed to help individuals, particularly children, fully utilize their 0% capital gains tax bracket. This approach is especially valuable for parents of children with special needs, whose children may remain in the 0% capital gains bracket throughout their lifetime. It’s a powerful tool to help build long-term tax efficiency and generational wealth.

What is your favorite part about working with clients?

I love endeavoring to help clients reduce their financial stress. I know that having significant responsibilities beyond your lifetime is incredibly stressful, and I enjoy helping people come up with a plan to ensure their children are taken care of.
