Get to know Evan

Evan Melching is an Accredited Wealth Management Advisor™️ from Indianapolis, Indiana. While Evan has spent nearly a decade as a financial advisor, his initial career plan was to coach or teach. However, the resulting hardships his family faced from the 2008 recession changed everything. From that moment, Evan started reading about economics, investing, psychology, and risk. He saw that money wasn’t just about numbers—it was health, marriages, dreams, and peace of mind.

Evan began his career as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in 2017. He slowly began building his expertise across financial planning, estate and legacy planning, portfolio construction, wealth management, tax-efficient strategies, stock options, retirement planning, cash flow and supplemental income, and insurance. Today, he’s proud to empower families in making informed decisions about their future.

Outside of helping families navigate financial matters, he loves spending time with family, weightlifting, and bow hunting. His greatest loves in life are his two perfect kids and his beautiful wife.

How did you become a financial advisor?

A friend of my family, lost nearly everything in 2008. He had a business, a house, two kids in college, and a retirement fund he’d been building for 25 years. Then came the crash. No diversification, no guidance, and no one to tell him to pull the reins when the market started shaking.

I remember he told me, with tears in his eyes, “I thought I had a plan. I really did.”

I was just about to graduate from high school then, and not sure what I was going to study in college. But that moment stuck with me. I started reading everything from economics to investing to psychology and risk. I saw that money wasn’t just numbers—it was health, marriages, dreams, and peace of mind. I saw that most people don’t have a plan. And even when they do, they don’t have someone in their corner when the punches come.

I had found my passion. I became obsessed with learning everything I could about building resilience beyond portfolios. I learned how to communicate hard truths, listen when people were scared, and how to stay steady when the market wasn’t. That discipline became my north star. I officially began my financial career in 2017 at Merrill Lynch.

What types of clients do you work with?

I work with a diverse array of clients, spanning young professionals, small business owners, C-suite executives, and retirees.

What types of strategies do you usually help clients with?

I primarily help clients with income planning, growth, tax efficiency, and cash management strategies.

Is there a unique approach that sets you apart?

I take a combinatory approach to investing. I use fundamentals to help identify investable companies, and I use technicals to determine how much and when to buy/sell. I view risk as the probability of return on principal, instead of volatility. I believe my investment philosophy generally differs from most in the industry.

What is your favorite part about working with clients?

Ultimately, my favorite thing is helping clients reach their goals. I also love taking the edge off of their financial concerns. I aim to serve as a sounding board for clarity, comfort, and stability in times of uncertainty.
