How did you become a financial advisor?

The pivot point in my career came when my best friend, Ruth, died from Colon Cancer at 32 years old.

In 2015, I had been a designer for almost 12 years. I had become an expert in corporate retail, clothing design and production, but was disillusioned by what I had seen in the Industry around the world. I had traveled around the world 18 times by then, visiting 2-5 countries each time, and saw the end coming for this untenable exploitation of cheap labor, and indiscriminately waste expulsion into rivers and streams. Then in February 2015, Ruth passed. She had been diagnosed one year prior and it started as stage 4 Colon Cancer. During that last year of Ruth's life, I was with her for first appointments, every month spending days or a week with her, to be a point of encouragement, of brevity, of witness, of support. That time, and all time after has transformed me into someone else.

I realized that when you lose your person, you never "move on", you never wake up "not thinking about them" or at least they are never far from your thoughts. Ruth was my person. My secure connection in addition to my parents. We knew each other since 4th grade or so, but became and grew into each other's closest person, sharing everything, always looping back together, always continuing the conversation, no matter what changed, no matter how we grew, we grew together. and then.... she was gone.

Grieving like this has shown me that there is such an incredible need for comfort in loss. Through my years of grief, I have been witness to additional grief over money and THINGS. Division of families, which would have never been the intention of the dead. Intentions not known! When in pain, deep pain and grief, people most times are not their best selves. May I bring peace, compassion and guidance to all those suffering. May we all know that we all suffer. I was left questioning: how do I keep living? and the answer was to say YES, to a new experience.

Thorough evaluation of my past skills, and new experiences, lead me to seeking deeply the next thing. I had a trusted Financial Advisor, who I had seen for years, and she suggested I do what she does. So, I did. A year later, after extensive training and testing, I started serving clients. I immediately saw the need for my work and the impact and importance.

I came to Savvy Advisors after working with Edward Jones Investments and with Huntington Bank, after looking for a more functional, intentional, tech based investment adviser.

Now, I offer clients a better experience, with less of the entanglements of a traditional financial company. A forward thinking, diverse, savvy company, I'm happy to have the support of this company to build my intentional practice.
