Patrick Traverse, CFPĀ®, EA, CEPAā„¢

Hi, šŸ‘‹ I’m Patrick. I work with business owners across the United States who want a clearer, more intentional approach to managing their finances.

I help entrepreneurs bring together cash flow, investments, and tax-aware planning so their personal and business finances work together. My approach is shaped by my early career as a professional hockey player, where I saw how hard it can be to find advice that looks at the full financial picture.

How did you become a financial advisor?

My journey to becoming a financial advisor began during my career as a professional hockey player. Early on, I realized I needed Holistic financial advice that addressed the bigger picture. Most advisors I spoke with focused almost entirely on managing investments, but what I needed was help with cash flow, taxes, and long-term financial planning.

Because I couldn’t find that type of guidance at the time, I started learning these areas myself. Along the way I discovered many entrepreneurs and professionals were facing the same challenge. They were receiving pieces of advice but not a coordinated strategy.

That experience ultimately led me to the financial planning profession and to building Breakaway Financial Group.

What areas of expertise do you have?

My work focuses on coordinating the areas that influence long-term financial progress for business owners. This includes cash flow management, investment planning, and tax-aware financial strategies.

Because many entrepreneurs have a significant portion of their wealth tied to their businesses, I also focus on integrating business finances with a broader personal financial plan.

What types of clients do you work with?

I primarily work with small business owners across the United States who want a more organized and intentional approach to their finances.

Many of my clients are successful entrepreneurs who have built strong businesses but want help bringing clarity to their personal and business financial strategy. My goal is to help simplify the financial side of their lives so they can focus on running and growing their companies.

What types of strategies do you usually help clients with?

Many of the strategies we focus on help business owners manage cash flow more effectively, invest consistently, and improve tax efficiency over time.

This often includes building systems for saving and investing from business income, structuring tax-aware investment approaches, and planning for major financial decisions such as reinvesting in the business, preparing for retirement, or evaluating a future business exit.

Is there a unique approach that sets you apart?Ā

A key part of our approach is focusing on execution, not just advice.
Many financial plans look good on paper but never get implemented. We work closely with clients to help them follow through on the strategies we develop together.

Drawing on the coaching mindset I developed during my athletic career, I work alongside clients to help them stay disciplined, make thoughtful decisions, and continue progressing toward their long-term goals.

What is your favorite part about working with clients?Ā

I enjoy helping clients gain clarity and confidence around their financial future.
Many business owners are very skilled at running their companies, but their personal finances can feel fragmented or uncertain. When we help bring everything together into a clear strategy, it’s rewarding to see the sense of confidence that comes with having a plan.

I also enjoy the coaching aspect of the relationship. Long-term progress rarely comes from one decision. It comes from consistent actions over time.
