Our Team

Derek and Matt have been colleagues for many years, first at Country Financial and then co-founding partners at True Harvest Private Wealth. Derek brings a wealth of experience from Raymond James and Country Financial, specializing in insurance and investment products. Meanwhile, Matt brings expertise in charitable giving planning from his experience as a wealth manager at Raymond James and brings a philanthropic lens to his work as a financial advisor.  Additionally, Michael Gaynor is a key member of the True Harvest team, bringing his experience in option trading, risk management and 401(k)s. Together, they create a strong and dedicated team focused on helping clients of all backgrounds navigate life’s challenges and achieve their financial goals.

Get to know Michael

Mike has loved all things finance for as long as he can remember. In his opinion, being an option trader was one of the best jobs in the world. However, looking back, he found the work to be somewhat unsatisfying. He became a financial advisor to share his financial knowledge and passion with others. Mike views himself as a steward of his clients’ finances and cherishes the responsibility of guiding them toward their financial goals, and through continued education and hard work, he is committed to helping his clients achieve their aspirations. 

With his transition to the wealth management industry, Mike leans on the financial knowledge he obtained from spending the first 17+ years of his career as an independent market maker on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT). In his previous experience, Mike truly learned the risks vs rewards that are involved in investing. He has also gained valuable customer relationship experience through being a small business owner, EcoGreen lawn services. Mike was a graduate of NIU, where he received his business degree. 

On a day-to-day basis, Mike is busy staying up to date on volatile market conditions. He believes his knowledge and dedication to following historical and current market trends will directly benefit his clients.

Outside of the office, Mike is a dedicated husband and father. He is an active member of Red Rocks church serving as a greeter. His desire to help others recently led him on a mission trip to Honduras with All God’s Children, which profoundly shaped his perspective on life's true purpose. His love for the outdoors spurred his move to Colorado, where he enjoys skiing, hiking, biking, pickleball, and cross-fit training. Originally from Chicago, Illinois. Mike currently resides in Highlands Ranch, Colorado with his wife Ali, their children, Max, Sophia, Dillon, and their dog Louie.

How did you become a financial advisor?

After spending the first 17 years of my career as an Independent Option Trader on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), I took a few years off to "recharge the batteries." Realizing that online trading was unfulfilling, yet still having the desire to work in finance, I decided to go in a different direction. Becoming a financial advisor has been the perfect fit for me. I have thoroughly enjoyed returning to the world of finance and helping people achieve their financial goals.

What types of clients do you work with?

Driven by my commitment to helping others achieve their goals, there is not a specific type of client that I work with. I am happy to work with all investors.

What areas of expertise do you have? 

With my background in option trading and risk management, it equips me to better understand the latest alternative investment products. Whether its structured products, buffered ETFs, or covered call strategies, my experience enables me to thoroughly grasp these products and effectively communicate their benefits to my clients, helping them achieve their goals.

What types of strategies do you usually help clients with? 

The strategies that I help clients with varies. Getting to know my clients to understand their goals and risk appetite is key in determining what type of portfolio that I create. Whether it's building an individual corporate bond ladder or recommending a growth fund, my priority will always be capital preservation and growth. Both of which I believe can be achieved through the creation of a well-balanced portfolio and the incorporation of alternative investments, when appropriate.

Is there a unique approach that sets you apart?

My unique approach leverages my expertise in options, which were specifically designed to reduce risk. I’m excited about new products that let clients benefit from market upsides while minimizing downside risk. Guiding them through market turmoil and showing how some investments can thrive in such conditions is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job.

What is your favorite part about working with clients? 

My favorite part about working with clients is building a lasting relationship and gaining trust with that person or family. We can then celebrate together as we work toward achieving their financial goals.
