With a Ph.D. in Economics from Georgetown, my career has spanned co-founding an investment advisory firm, teaching Finance at the University of Nevada, serving as the CEO of a community bank, contributing to Forbes Markets as a writer, and serving as a Principal Wealth Manager. Dr. Robert Barone, Ph.D. is an economist whose storied career spans numerous decades and positions within the world of finance. Since gaining his Ph.D. in Economics from Georgetown, he has been a Professor of Finance (University of Nevada), a community bank CEO (Comstock Bancorp), and a Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, where he served as its Chair in 2004. He lives and breathes the world of finance, continuing to provide clients and avid Forbes readers with his latest market insights.

How did you become a financial advisor?

Following my Ph.D. in Economics from Georgetown, I’ve traversed the financial landscape in different areas. I’ve been a Professor of Finance (University of Nevada), a community bank CEO (Comstock Bancorp), a Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, where I served as its Chair in 2004, and more. In 2006, I founded an investment advisory firm alongside my son, Joshua Barone, which continued my passion for providing financial guidance.

What areas of expertise do you have?

I specialize in financial planning and investment management, informed by my deep understanding of macroeconomic trends. I utilize macroeconomic analysis to shift asset allocation between asset classes. I use quantitative techniques to help find the most reasonable value in those sectors. 

What types of clients do you work with?

I have the privilege of working with clients from all walks of life, guiding them through various stages of their financial journey. Over the years, I’ve helped many gain clarity and confidence in navigating the complex world of economic analysis and market trends.

What types of strategies do you usually help clients with?

A significant portion of my client assistance revolves around tax optimization. This encompasses a wide range, from designing retirement income plans and optimizing asset placement to translating their objectives into innovative solutions that best serve their financial interests in the end.

Is there a unique approach that sets you apart? 

I have created a proprietary algorithm that helps our advisor team sift through quantitative investment data and pinpoint the most undervalued investment opportunities in the market. I use this information to make decisions on which investments appear to be the most appropriate fit for our clients and make recommendations based on that data.

What is your favorite part about working with clients? 

I firmly believe that my clients' interests are always paramount—even before our own. Meeting their interests is my favorite part of working with them.
